Update of the HPC portal#

We have updated the VUB OnDemand portal by installing several new apps, upgrading to Open OnDemand 4.1 and making a slight change to the job submission forms.

Upgrade to Open OnDemand 4.1#

The portal runs a new Open OnDemand release with general improvements and bug fixes.

  • New Module Browser

    • In the Clusters tab you can now find the Module Browser.

    • The Module Browser allows you to inspect all the software modules installed in Hydra and Anansi and see which versions are present.

  • New Project Manager

    • In the Jobs tab you can now find the Project Manager.

    • The Project Manager provides a suite of tools to leverage the Open OnDemand features. You can:

      • Create batch connect apps from your own personal scripts.

      • Track and organize your job history.

      • Assemble individual jobs into large-scale workflows.

    • See the OnDemand documentation for more information.

New interactive apps#

  • Open WebUI app

    • This app launches Ollama and interacts with it using Open WebUI, allowing you to chat easily with a local LLM.

    • By default several models are available to use such as ChocoLlama, gpt-oss, deepseek-r1, …

  • Bioimage ANalysis Desktop

    • Bioimage ANalysis Desktop is a desktop for Bioimage Analysis similar to the EMBL Bioimage ANalysis Desktop (BAND) platform.

    • This desktop offers easy access to several GUI apps. Right now they are:

      • Fiji 2.14.0

      • QuPath 0.6.0

      • CellProfiler 4.2.8

      • napari 0.6.6

Simplified application form#

The partition selection option has been moved into the advanced section of the job submission form to simplify the default view.

In the partition selection field you can now select the automatic option, which means your job will queue for each eligible partition. This should lead to decreased queueing times.
