Upgrade to Rocky Linux 9.7#

We are upgrading the OS and Slurm scheduler on Hydra and Anansi starting Tuesday, January 27. The rollout will start Tuesday night. User impact is minimal: there will be no downtime, and your running or queued jobs will remain unaffected.

The upgrade of the operating system brings the compute nodes to the most recent version of Rocky Linux (9.7), including all current security updates and new versions of low-level drivers for the storage and GPUs. In addition to the minor OS upgrade, Slurm will also be upgraded to its latest stable version (25.11). The updated Slurm introduces many fixes and some improvements to the job scheduler, but there will be no changes to your job scripts or how you use the cluster.

No action is needed on your part. Upgrades are performed partition by partition, so your running or queued jobs will not be affected, though you may notice slightly longer queue times during the process.

These operations are part of the regular updates to keep VUB’s heterogeneous Tier-2 HPC infrastructure modern and up to current standards.
