Slow network connection to external systems#

Updated on 26/05/2022

10:00 The issues with the network have been solved and the connection of Hydra to external systems is back to full speed.

The connection between Hydra and the Internet is being severely affected by an issue on the VUB network. Any operation requiring the download or upload of data from an external system (websites, personal computers) is very slow and will probably fail.

The internal network of the cluster is unaffected by this issue. Communication between nodes and the storage is working fine and jobs can be submitted to queue.

In the meantime, you can use other VSC sites to download any files to your VSC_DATA directory. Those files will be immeaditely available in Hydra. For instance, you can login to the HPC cluster of UGent with your VSC account in the same way that you connect to Hydra by just replacing login.hpc.vub.be with login.hpc.ugent.be:

  1. directly connect to UGent Tier-2 HPC (login.hpc.ugent.be)

  2. download/upload any files to/from your VSC_DATA directory

  3. disconnect from UGent

  4. connect to Hydra as usual

  5. the uploaded files will be available in your VSC_DATA

The VUB network team is working to fix this issue as soon as possible. Unfortunately, we do not yet have any time frame for the resolution of this issue. We will update this post with any new information.

Our apologies for the trouble.
