How to connect¶
Researchers of ULB can connect to Hydra with the netID:
Users on Linux/Mac OS can directly ssh from a terminal application. Users on Windows OS please follow the guide to setup the MobaXTerm application.
The instructions in the VSC docs (see link below) are targeted to users of Flemish universities. ULB users can use these instructions as well, but should take the following considerations in mind:
ULB users can/should not apply for a VSC account to access Hydra.
ULB users are not required to create a public/private SSH key pair to access Hydra; you are of course encouraged to install a key pair yourself for increased security and convenience.
Researchers of VUB can connect to Hydra with a VSC account:
Please follow the instructions in the VSC docs on Logging in to a cluster corresponding to your operating system.
For increased security, an additional firewall layer has been added to all VSC clusters. For the time being, most users located in Belgium will not notice any difference, but if you’re located abroad you’ll have to take an additional step in order to access Hydra. For more info, see the VSC docs on the Additional firewall layer.
Connecting to Vega is restricted to computers belonging to one of the CECI university networks (ULB, UCL, ULg, UNamur and UMons).
Users with a CECI account (CECI-ID) can connect to Vega:
Follow the instructions on the CECI website: https://support.ceci-hpc.be/doc/_contents/QuickStart/ConnectingToTheClusters/index.html
Other VSC Tier-2 sites¶
Users with a VSC account (VSC-ID) can also run their jobs on the clusters of the other Flemish institutions that are part of the VSC. All VSC sites use the same PBS job submission system, but their configuration varies slightly. Please contact the respective HPC teams for help using their clusters.
- KU Leuven/UHasselt:
For hardware details, see the VSC docs on Tier-2 hardware
Note: usage of the Tier-2 clusters at the HPC sites UGent and UAntwerpen is free, whereas usage of the KU Leuven/UHasselt site requires purchase of credits.
Users with a VSC account (VSC-ID) and Tier-1 project grant or starting grant can connect to VSC Tier-1 via one of two login nodes:
Follow the instructions on the VSC website for obtaining a Tier-1 grant: https://www.vscentrum.be/tier1
Users with a CECI account (CECI-ID) and Tier-1 project grant can connect to CECI the Tier-1 cluster Zenobe.
Zenobe is accessible directly only from a CECI university network:
From other locations, access to Zenobe is possible through a gateway:
From there, users can connect to ZENOBE:
Follow the instructions on the CECI website: http://www.ceci-hpc.be/zenobe.html
